For You Tammy!

A friend of mine was c/o of her sewing room being messy and she sent me 2 pictures…. I only wish that my sewing room was that neat! I still have not cleaned all of my fleece out of the dining room where I cut PJ bottoms. I have 4 UFO’s in my sewing rm and one on a bed in the spare bedroom bc it needs borders and then quilting. That’s what I’m claiming.

But today DH wanted to go to this town near us Waynesville, Oh and I love the Fabric Shack! I bought a lot of fabric. However, I dropped my grand teen off at her house after she spent the night w us. We had gone to the Nutcracker the night b4. While there (for 10 min!) I managed to leave my purse behind! If DH hadn’t of had some cash, I wouldn’t have been able to buy anything.  My hero! He gave me a $100, and I spent $99.80!

future projects
So I got a Moda fabric bag. Says I’m a fabricholic…. Now why would they say that????
NO NOT ME!

Now what’s on my sewing table is the mess uh quilt in progress from Bonnie's Celtic Solstice. Of which I am so far behind, that I have stopped working on any of my other UFO’s/WIP to try to catch up.

WIP

spare bedroom overflowing shelves.
And no that's not all of it, I have some over flow, and some in the closet!

WIP, and Future projects.......

I thought i should share my current project, Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice .
I am behind. But I'm hoping by the end of today to start on Part 5....I'm using the Pinwheels as my Leader ender, now that I have finished the 4 squares. They were the leader ender for the pin wheels...
Now I have to finish the Chevrons! and assemble them.
I think the saving of the "bonus" triangles is part of the slow down.

What am I doing!????

WHAT am I doing???? well finishing is not one of my strong points.... starting is. This post was actually written about 2 weeks ago! I can't even post on time!

So far since starting on the 3 pairs of jammy pants, I have bought more material to make a few more for the daughters of my DH.  I've finished part 1 of Bonnie hunters mystery quilt

And started on Part 2

I've bought more fabric bc it was on sale, and planned in my head a new quilt, yet to be cut, just planning it.Probably will be buying more fabrics for it.

We also were dealing w a lot of snow for this early in December our winter has already started. The last 2 yrs have been lighter snows, truly not more than an inch. I think so far our snow totals are 6 in. maybe not officially, but that's what I'm shoveling.

This is actually a picture of the supposed "dusting" which for us was an additional 3" on top of the 4-6 we had the week b4. Lovely to sew while it's falling though

While I was out shopping this week/antique/junk shopping I came across a treadle, I don't know how old it is, but seems to have all of it's parts. The cabinet was interesting as it closed, and the sewing machine folded down into it. I thought it was pretty so I took some photos. I saw this at the  The Covered Bridge Antique Mall. In Cincinnati, Ohio. I included the link in case anyone wants more info. I had to ask about the price, they said $175.00 The cabinet is in need of a cleaning and polishing, but is intact. Decals are pretty good, and the spindle parts look like they are all there. No idea on the age,

The last few weeks have been a whirl wind of activities. Mr Christmas (DH) and I went for a short trip to New York City. Compliments of his sister for whom he has done a lot. She wanted to show her appreciation! and it was appreciated!!!
We walked to Times Square, Bryant Park (a few times) took a river tour, saw the Statue of Liberty
Statue Of Liberty

and the new World Trade building from the tour.
World Trade Center

Me at Bryant Park

Rockefeller center
He really wanted to see the Christmas windows and we I hope saw all of them.
Saks

Macy's

Macy's BELIEVE!

Another great thing that NYC and Cincinnati have in common is the Botanical Gardens. We both have one, and at Christmas they both have displays from Applied imagination. I was very impressed with his display this year at Cincinnati Khron, but also the vast display at the NYC Botanical Gardens.

St Patricks Cathedral

We stayed close to the Garment district, so I have pictures of all the fabric stores I would pass going to and from the hotel. I was good though I didn't buy any! In my defense they were mostly fancy dress or suiting fabrics neither of which I'm making.

Lonely Mystery quilt!
Any sewing I have done over the past 2 weeks has been to complete the 4 pairs of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fleece PJ bottoms, the 3 pairs of bottoms for my Step Daughters, and one for my DGD. I do have some other grands to make jammies for, but they like to sew, I shall cut them out and see if we can't have a time at the machine together. They are all growing like weeds so I need fresh measurements.

Finished Jammie Pile!

Celtic Solace.... Not happening yet....

Oh I want it to, I have picked and resubsituted colors, compiled them.... Bought my rulers On BLACK FRIDAY! (OMG why??? did I go out on Black Friday to a MALL!)

But I just can't get it accomplished and get my other projects done for Christmas.

I am still in the middle of the WILD WOMEN's quilts....Almost done piecing them! 3 of the 4 are ready to have backing's made and quilted. But the only use I am getting out of my Long arm is to have fabric from it!

When I realized we have 22 days till Christmas and I have to supposed to, promised to make 3 pairs of Jammy pants for my Adult Children.... out of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA fleece!

That really has to come first. So I'm going to stop or not starting to work on this &Leave my Fabric choices piled up for Celtic Solstice Mystery, and do my TO DO projects first.

Design wall/bed

I'm been doing some sewing, and I have 1 square of the last 2 Wild Women quilts!

This is the "Pink Lemonade" quilt that was on a PBS Eleanor Burns show.  You can see her show on this here:Eleanor Burns PBS

I have to say I'm really happy that it was on PBS, because I was under the impression that the 2 flying geese were the same color. and they are not!!!! they are different to make the chevrons! I really think they make it stand out more.

There are a lot of parts, but those 4 squares and Chevron's are 6.5"

Sew, While I  am Leader ending the 4 squares, and the flying geese for  the PINK LEMONADE, I'm assembling this quilt for my DD's wedding.
She was actually married on July 6th,13 but I told her I needed one yr to get it together. Especially w my new quilting machine, I wanted some experience w it first!

Jo at Country Junction has been making the same one too... it was a UFO as it is at my house! LOL
Hers is scrappy  but I had this Kaffee Fasset fabric for years. At that time I wasn't into scrappy, I wanted it to be organised.

I liked her idea of corner stones which is not on the original scrappy design. I dug around and found my center fabric. Yeah there was enough to make all of the cornerstones! you can see hers here :Jo's Country Junction

On the unfinished areas on my spare 'design' bed the corner stones really make it pop! The one problem I have with this quilt is they are now moving and will be getting a king sized bed. there is no way this will ever be a king sized quilt, as it would need 64 more blocks. I don't have enough of the fabric to do that. I might get 1 or 2 more rows but not that many. It very possible that this will never leave my home, and I will make her a new one.

<<< border fabric for DD's quilt. I hope I have enough fabric as I bought this about 12 yrs ago!

I've finished all of the 4 patches for the last 2 quilts. and now am assembling the Chevrons out of two of the Flying geese.

ready to quilt quilts for the Wild Women.

Paid to quilt

A friend asked me to quilt her string quilt. I agreed, but wanted her to get me some hair product as she can get it REALLY cheap. Well she brought me 2 shopping bags of hair product! I just wanted a few bottles of Shampoo! LOL I will have to start washing my hair everyday!

So she brought me her string quilt, and bc she doesn't see quite like she used to, and is new to quilting, it would not lay flat on the quilting machine. I was very worried about it but proceeded.
I had to take some 'tucks' in a few places where it just wasn't quite right.

Although it isn't 'squared' the way it should be, it turned out pretty nice. I have had a busy week, w mammogram, w/o schedule and other things I needed to do but I was able to get it quilted.

I'm going to trim it today, and bind it w the background fabric. just wrapped around. I wasn't going to bind for her, but after she gave me so much stuff...

The finished quilt above.
You can almost see the swirly design here.

I still have some unfinished projects that need to be done by Christmas. Although I am rethinking that time frame.

These are the WILD WOMEN quilts, I need 2 more. They will be different though. These are also finished being pieced and are about ready for quilting.

Stealing Time.

Lately it seems as if the world wants all of my time, and there is no ME time, AKA sewing time. The house needs cleaning, BIL's house needed emptying, laundry piling up, DW needs to be filled or emptied. All those things and I can't quite get any sewing accomplished.

But I have found that if I steal a little time here and there, I can get a lot accomplished.

So What have I been doing the past week or so?
brought in all of my savable plants and took cuttings of my geraniums hoping they will grow.... I have a pic of the Geraniums but blogger doesn't want to up load it. :(

Brought all my Orchids in last week too and found some re-blooming! They love the hit humid summers, but now we are in the Cool Autumn fall weather and they have to come in. Hoping some will still bloom this winter as they have shoots!

I did get to the Sauerkraut Festival in Waynesville Ohio, and visited one of my Favorite quilt shops the Fabric Shack where I was able to get a clearance sale fabric for the borders on the WILD WOMEN'S quilts.

I'm changing patterns for the other 2 of the WILD WOMEN'S quilts (I need4) and did manage to cut some of those strips out, calculated the fabric I will need for the 2 quilts. I'm using Eleanor Burns Pink Lemonade for the pattern.  you can see it here: pink lemonadeShe has a video, that was on PBS, very good inst and although I have her Flying geese tool, I use a different system. Her's looks confusing to me, and I just can't wrap my brain around it. I guess I will have to call it something else since it isn't going to be pink w those purple fairies! LOL

While in Waynesville, I found these cute little hand made fairy houses, and garden ideas. I was intrigued because it was very different. So i splurged and bought one. mine is on the rt. w one of my plants behind it.

These small toy sewing machines were at an antique store in Lebanon Ohio, not far from Waynesville. I took a pic, just because I had not seen so many of them in one place. There were a lot of Treadles too in Lebanon, but I didn't take pic. Maybe I should have since this is about sewing. Oh well next time I'm there.

I've also started putting the strips of sashing between the blocks for a quilt I am making for my DD and her new husband.
I figure I will leader ender it till I get it done. It's the same UFO that Jo is working on atJo's Country Junction. Her's is scrappy, mine is "controlled" LOL I'm sure it will be loved. Scrappy would have allowed me to make it BIGGER though. As I am out of the matching fabrics. I still have a huge piece of fabric to make a border w that is in the same colors but a WILD print.

Now I really have to get to cleaning the house.
